Location : Gemok Hill Forest Reserve, Tawau Division, Sabah, Malaysia.
Gemok Hill Forest Reserve is situated 10km from Tawau town. This forest reserve has a canopy walkway – Titian Selara. At 231 metres long, it is deemed one of the longest canopy walkways in Sabah.
If you have been indulging in the seafood restaurants in Tawau and feeling guilty, Bukit Gemok is one place you can burn a few calories. The canopy walk here got us baited. It is situated less than 30min drive away along the Kalabakan road. Paid RM5/pax for the entrance.
Due to communication breakdown with the ticketing officers, we did not know that there was a major repair of the canopy walk. So innocently, we headed for the trail head with expectations of catching flying hornbills at the canopy.
The trail was quite easy without much elevation and with 7 gazebos to rest our legs.

Except for little insects on the jungle floor there was no sign of any wild life, not even hornbills. Nothing compared to the nearby Tawau Hills Park where hornbills were frequently seen or heard.

Anyway it was a good trail with many of the tree species labelled.
Not so far from the 7th stop was the canopy bridges lying on the jungle floor. Voices of the workers could be heard fixing the damaged bridges. Disappointing, but we shall return someday.

Next…..overnight stay in Balung River Eco Resort.
