Location : Dusun Suruh Engkadok, Desa Pala Pasang, Kecamatan Entikong, Kabupaten Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
Early on the morning of the second day, Stephen our host’s son gave us a guided tour of the new bridge and road leading to Pala Pasang which is the next village downstream of Engkadok and reachable on foot from Kampung Sadir which locals say ‘a very difficult 4 hour trek’.
The road has yet to be completed but accessible by motorbike in 10 minutes on a dry day. But from Entikong to Entabang as according to Christian the son of Pak Sani, the road is tar sealed. So one can still drive to Entabang and engage an ojek to continue along dirt road to Engkadok or Pala Pasang. I believe the next visit to Engkadok will have to be done by land as it much quicker but minus the excitement of shooting rapids in a boat.
During the walk we noticed many new plants in and around the village and came across a creeper very similar to the ‘daun bubut’ a medicinal plant for healing broken bones. Yet to be confirmed.
While I was getting a dip in the river Stephen was busy harvesting a very different type of fern from the river bank. We had yummy ferns for lunch.
We spent much of the rest of the day visiting houses enjoying delicacies and rice tuak.
At Pak Sani’s house
The night event started with an introduction to the big family of Pak Sani. First time we get to see and meet his parents and siblings. After which speeches followed. Too many and too long, more like a pep talk to motivate Sungkung tribes to emulate the successes of their fellow villagers.
The second evening wasn’t as happening as expected with most guests drained from the previous night’s all out merry making. Early to bed early to rise for tomorrow’s return journey. Thank you Pak Sani. Thank you Engkadok. See you guys in Sadir soon… (Check out Day 1 here)
