Seems to be the only government recognised Bidayuh Gawai celebration although it may not represent the whole spectrum of the Bidayuh community. We can see that much effort has been put into this event especially the ‘mini longhouse’ which was a very good idea.

It was here that we learned a lot about the names of the daily household items used by the Bidayuh. Nice effort and display by the participating villages.
Free food and tuak were served to visitors inside this mini longhouse. Quite a pleasant surprise. I wonder why this event is not attracting as much crowd as it should be, it being quite an established annual thing.

Bought a miniature baruk sold by one of the Bidayuh craft ladies and also 3 different Bidayuh dialects’ dictionaries. I have waited for these dictionaries for decades! Thanks to DBNA-Dayak Biddayuh National Association. Good job.
Perhaps, what fascinated me most was the blowpipe competition. These competitors are a special lot. They pay as much attention to their looks as well as their skills.

There is more to hitting the bullseye. These blowers are more fashion conscious than any other sports. Fancy hats, necklaces, shirts…..

Their dart casings are something to marvel at too.

I would suggest they have a separate competition for their attire. Bombastic Borneo will be the sponsor for the winning prize. See you next year.
