Location : Kampung Tringgus, Bau, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

This is one trek that put me in a spot, hence the long delay in writing it. To tell the scary truth or hide it.  My conscience told me ‘the former’.

Upon the invitation of the Ketua  Kampung,  Toe anak New of Kampung Tringgus the 3 of us, Mei Er, Joseph Lai and I did it with Toe himself as our guide.  I had done it about 5 years ago with Tan Wee Ming, Michael Lo and several others using a totally different route and sleeping over at Tringgus Lama or the original Tringgus before the whole village moved to the current location.  My first trek was very much tougher and longer route over the mountain.  Not to mention the 20 over leech bites.  The guide then was Baon.

This time Toe took us thru a totally different route, the river route, with more than a dozen river crossings and it was a lot more interesting and shorter too.  Just over 3 hours as against the mountain route – 6!

One particular spot where we found the ‘dinosaur egg’ was quite impressive.  There was also the fascinating bicolour stream.  Although most part of the trail was quite flat as we edged nearer to the fall the climb was steep and high.  The freshly constructed stairs made the work a lot easier.  I was surprised to learn that the area had just been gazetted as a national park.

To be very frank the leeches kept us on our toes and that took away a lot of fun which otherwise

the trail was quite unique with so many river crossings.  At one point Toe had to harvest some rattan fruits for us to fight the leeches.  The juice from the fruit killed the leeches in seconds.  The lesson learned was the only consolation.  But at least this time I ONLY had 12 bites, thank God.
