Gawai Nyabakng Serumpun Sungkung Medeng Bengkayang

Location : Dusun Medeng, Desa Sungkung II, Kecamatan Siding, Kabupaten Bengkayang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.

The day that Sungkung Medeng / Anep villagers and Kampung Gumbang guests had been looking forward to, finally arrived. The date was 26.6.19. Mr. Atok the headman of Gumbang had led his group of villagers a day earlier through the jungle of Siding into Kapot village before continuing by ojek to Medeng / Anep in the night. Poor Agus and his gang of motorbikes had to go back and forth fetching the Gumbang folks. Despite the challenging trip, Gumbang kept their promise to do the return leg of this reciprocal celebration.

5 years ago we were part of the hiking team when Gumbang twined with Senebeh. Back then there were no ojeks, strictly on foot all the way through jungle trail over 2 days with a total of 17 hiking hours! At about 9am Gumbang visitors headed in the direction of nearby Dusun Lu to wait for the gun shot signal before marching back again to meet their hosts at a hill just outside Medeng / Anep.
