Location : Kota Sekadau, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
The second day of gawai, a few competitions going on.
The biggest fun was still the street scene at the Pasar Flamboyan and the amount of dried fish sold here was mind boggling.
It clearly indicated how rich Kapuas river was and still is. I did noticed though that inspite of the amount of dried fish sold on the streets, no processed by products like fish ‘keropok’ was found displayed. Fruit varieties were amazing too.
Perhaps, I should mention too that we came across a row of about ten units of green coloured motorized cargo tricycles parked near the fresh mart somewhere in town. The first thing that came to mind was their function would be for transporting goods. But to our surprise upon closer observation, those tricycles were employed for rubbish disposal! Perfect for narrow roads in the villages where rubbish volume was not that heavy. Smart idea. Something for Trienekens to think about on rural garbage disposal in Sarawak.
