Location : Kota Ketapang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
Finally making the long awaited boat ride to Ketapang although flight was available at a slightly more expensive rate. For I believed with the 6hour plus trip we could learn a lot talking to the locals. The sky was smoggy and the sea was exceptionally calm. The first class seats we paid for were super comfy, like flying business class. Better than the one plying Kuching/Sibu. We learned later that the boat was a joint venture between a Sibu businessman and an Indonesian.
Philip, a Dayak Akhir and our host for the next 3 days was there at the crowded port to welcome us to Ketapang. After lunch we wasted no time in doing our bike tour.
Philip led us to the most famous and beautiful ‘rumah kuning’ or yellow house of the town “Rumah Adat Melayu”. Words just cannot describe its beauty. The owner was once the bupati of Ketapang regency going by the name of Dato Sri Morkes Effendi. We were lucky to be invited into the living room and also the top most floor where the balcony was. Enjoy the photos of his wooden palace.
