Location : Dusun Bumbung, Desa Bengkawan, Kecamatan Seluas & Dusun Siding, Kecamatan Siding, Kabupaten Bengkayang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
After the main event at Tadan village was over, we had a quick and simple lunch at one of the villager’s house. We had planned to visit the ‘riam’ or cascade of Bumbung village some 30min boat ride up the Biang River. Most parts of the river were shallow and Aking our boatman had to maneuver carefully to avoid hitting submerged rock or sand bars.
The village looked deserted and eerily quiet. Most of the villagers were away attending the Nyobeng Tadan. We saw no more than 10 people. There were not more than 20 houses with some very high up on steep slopes.

At the end of the village was a path that led to the cascade where we had a dip.
We made it back to Dusun Sebujit with enough of daylight and decided to do a quick bike ride to Siding village which we had not visited for more than two years.
The last visit was actually a ‘hello goodbye’ situation when we were coming back from Sungkung and took the boat from Kapot to Siding and continued immediately on foot to Gumbang. Paid Pak Sigul the ex headman a visit before being brought to the army post by Pak Bakas the current headman to report our visit. Indonesia is very strict about registering visits by outsiders. Must be a legacy of the Dutch during the Chinese gold miners’ confrontation. Anyway, rules are rules. Had a few quick round of tuak with Pak Sigul and some old friends before hurrying back to Sebujit.
