Location : Kota Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
Gawai Dayak Sanggau is an annual traditional gawai harvest festival event at the venue of Rumah Betang Dori’ Mpulor. Sanggau Regency is a regency in West Kalimantan province of Indonesia.
Mid year is always a busy time for most parts of Borneo as the indigenous people celebrate the harvest festival. More so in West Kalimantan where such festivities are well supported by tribal pride and the government.
We were covering the grand opening of the cultural centre in Bengkayang and half way through we suddenly decided that we wanted to join our friends from Sadir who were attending the Gawai in Sanggau.

It was a very difficult drive for the first 3 hours. The road was one of the worst in Kalimantan. From Ngabang town onwards things got better. Sosok to Sanggau was even better.

We managed to arrive after more than 5 hours at the venue of Rumah Betang Raya Dori Mpulor, just in time for the last program of the day’s session. It was the kids’ beauty contest. They all looked awesome in their individually designed traditional attires. Big efforts from their parents.
