Location : Kelurahan Kuala, Kecamatan Singkawang Barat, Kota Singkawang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
So while we were in Singkawang, we suddenly thought we should give our friend Mr. Norman Bong a call for coffee. In a few minutes he was at the hotel and insisted we hopped into his car and gave us a tour of the city for the rest of the day. His good connections brought us to a local souvenir shop, a belian furniture factory, an interview at a temple, Hakka Tulou and a Malay fishing village which we shall feature here.

After the twists and turns from the hotel we arrived at a Malay village near the Singkawang Port. The place was called Kuala. Mei Er and I were ahead as we walked towards a large group of fisherman by the river. They looked at us with suspicion but as soon Pak Norman showed up their faces lighted up and looked more friendly. So we continued with our shooting.
There were many fishing boats berthed alongside the Singkawang River perhaps resting from their trips to the South China Sea.
As expected, there were lots of fish lining the sides of the street drying in the sun. Unfortunately, we did not come across any household producing fish products like keropok, cincaluk or belacan. Maybe it was not the right season. However, to our surprise one guy had a machine skinning rattan and he showed us some rattan products that his workers produced.
Next…Belian furniture factory.
