If I have my way, I would rather this outlet be turned into a ‘Belian Wood Museum’ and conserved as a tourism product to showcase the talents of wood sculpturing in Borneo. Gate collections and other side incomes would be the more sensible way to preserve the heritage of these ‘iron wood of Borneo’, some of which could be centuries old. Imagine, if rich foreigners were to buy and stash them somewhere in their homes in Europe, these legacies of the land will be gone from Borneo forever. Much have been lost already like the beads, jars and silver ornaments of Sarawak. Food for thought Singkawang. Preserve while you still can for the sake of the future generations.
