Location : Jit Hin Shop, Kampung Tebakang Dayak, Serian Division, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Recently a friend of ours, Mr Sim, invited us along to Kampung Tebakang for his favourite dish here which is the tomato sauce ‘udang galah’ or giant fresh water prawn. We tagged along although meat was not in our diet. Sim has been a regular client for decades.

The shop ‘Jit Hin’ is now operated by two brothers. It was passed to them by their late father Penghulu Choo.

Being a loyal customer Mr Sim has good connections with the family and requested the owners to allow us a little shooting of some of the dishes they served. Permission granted. TQ

A tour of the local market showed the price of raw udang galah it was selling for RM70/kg. It might have gone up already given the scarcity due to the upstream invasion of crocodiles. Its popularity should warrant for farmed udang galah in Sarawak rather than depend on small time fishermen using traps.
