Location : Dusun Sebujit, Desa Hli Buei, Kecamatan Siding, Kabupaten Bengkayang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
Looking back, the biggest issue we faced for this event was accommodation. With more sixty guests from our group itself, Pak Gunawan had a hard time distributing us all over the village. The biggest group was put up at the school which was not the most comfortable but they survived somehow. Finding water for shower was also another issue. Some did it in the closeby stream. All homes in Sebujit opened their doors to guests who needed a shower, no questions asked, as much as they opened their doors for hungry guests plus free flow of all sorts of tuak, rice and palm wine. Afterall, Nyobeng is also the festival of Gawai.
The biggest ‘official’ event of this festival was the welcoming of the VIPs especially Pak Cornelis the Governor of Kalimantan Barat then.
Perhaps. I should remind new comers to Sebujit here that their peculiar way of welcoming VIP guests is by the throwing of eggs on their chests in a friendly way though. Formalities followed like always with the walk though the village to the baruk led by the male dancers accompanied by the mobile gong musicians. Next……..inverted pole climbing and bamboo chopping competitions.
