Location : Nanga Pinoh, Kabupaten Melawi, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
While trying to kill time in Nanga Pinoh town, we took up the suggestion to do a little boat tour of the Melawi river. The boss of the tiny floating convenience store help organized it for us. He disappeared for about 5min and came back to tell us to wait for the boatman. We never expected anything exciting going by my visual check of the river. We did it more to help the local economy. The price was IDR100,000 for a tiny pump boat with a 5horsepower engine. We just sat in the boat and not much was spoken between the young boatman and the two of us. When we reached the junction of the Pinoh and Melawi rivers, he suggested that we turned into the spot at Pinoh river where local kids would hangout and swim. But his 5hp engine could not beat the current of Pinoh river and decided to turn back for base. Dropped us off and we paid him IDR100,000 all for a 15min ride. Not much of a deal was it?

Oh well. We ordered some coffee at the convenience store to wait for the boss’s daughter Siau Lin to get ready to bring us to the ‘picnic spot’ at Pinoh river. We walked across town for about 20min before arriving at a huge bedrock partially submerged in the river but the exposed surface could accommodate a huge crowd. This was where we saw how the locals do their ‘lepaking’. With the hot weather the place was just perfect. Next……Pinoh street scene.
