Continue from Part 1…
15 districts of Sanggau performing their cultural dance.
After all the protocols and speeches were done with, all invited guests made a beeline for the luncheon held at the upper floor of the Rumah Betang Raya Dori Mpulor which was a mock longhouse built for the purpose of Gawai. 15 rooms were available for each and every district and the ‘ruai’ or common corridor were laid with all kinds of food specially prepared by their ladies.
Merry making with all the nice food and tuak at that point in time was a very noisy affair. Some districts would play their live traditional music to accompany the guests enjoying the lunch.
While the lunch was still going on, Panglima Mian or spiritual warriors put up quite a stunt at the stage to the awe of the Sanggau crowd, especially the part where one of his boys drilled his own arm with an electric drill. Not a single drop of blood was shed!
Later the crowd broke up for the day before returning that night for some contemporary dancing and singing.
