Location : Sambas-Aruk, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.

Driving back via Sambas instead of Takek was a wise choice and the Trans Kalimantan road was near perfect being newly completed thanks to Pak Jokowi. That was in April, by the way, and things could change pretty fast given the number of heavy vehicles that had or would ply this way.

Along this Sambas/Aruk road there were many junctions on the left that could lead to the coastal places such as Sekura, Liku, Galing, Paloh and Temajuk. Other than Temajuk, the rest are definitely on our list of places in Sambas to explore.

  1. Hi, there. I am amazed by the adventures that you took all these while! May I ask about the safety to drive a Malaysian registered car because I am afraid it might attract some unwanted attention.

    • Personally, we have driven there many times without any problems. To play it safe, don’t use fanciful expensive 4×4 vehicles to attract potential thieves, like everywhere in Sarawak! Except for transnational road, some of the village roads are very narrow so it is best to slow down when approaching corners. Some road shoulders are very bad too. MY greatest fear is running over motorcyclists because they turn anytime without signalling. When refuelling, use the best diesel available which is a lot more expensive than the ordinary one. It will save you on fuel filter later. Have a safe holiday.
