Location : Le’ Park, Civic Centre, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Super cold reception to last weekend’s blowpipe competition. Such a poor response from Kuching. Except for the competitors, officials and a handful of spectators like us, the total crowd was less that a hundred.

About 10 Kalimantan Barat blowers were the only foreign team pariticpating in what was supposed to be an ‘international’ event. I hope one day this sport will evolve into a glamorous one just like darts or even archery. For a start, Kuching blowers should form an association and request from the government to build a hall/stadium so members could get together for regular trainings and monthly competitions. I personally feel that it is a wonderful and very healthy sport which is good for strengthening the lungs, diaphram, shoulder muscles and mental focus. Young, old and the disabled can participate and most important have FUN. Its popularity can spin of an industry for blowpipe/dart and dart casing/accessories production too! Who knows? The finals saw 2 Champions of Champions in the Men’s and Ladies’ sections and both are from Kampung Podam, Bau. So now you know where to look for your sumpit sifu.
