Location : Kota Palangka Raya, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia.
We are more excited with our last destination as it was our Tour de Kalimantan Tengah’s grand finale that we had been anxiously looking forward to, kick started by our FB friend Kornelius Agustinus’s stimulating photos. The trip finally sealed my dream of two and a half decade to travel the bottom part of Borneo island.
Taking the 5 hour land journey from Sampit into Palangka Raya was not the most exciting journey with the heavy smog choking us, thanks to palm oil again. I just wonder how oil palm could thrive in peat soil and white sand with mostly shrubs and thin short trees covering the landscape. Surprisingly, except for Bukit Tangkiling, the topography here is as flat as pee on a plate.
Arriving at Bukit Raya Gusesthouse confirmed my gut feeling that it was going to be an awesome place. Kornelius had brought to my attention on FB about this ‘jungle resort’ in the middle of town.

After checking out their website I vowed to make it my base. And seeing it with my own eyes was even more satisfying. Every bit of it is like a piece of art, expert carpentry and master piece design.

No surprise when later I found out from Swiss owner/designer, Mr Thomas Bronnimann, had been around Kalimantan teaching, producing and exporting knock down timber houses for the last 15 years. Which was why I called him a wizard. I hope you guys out there can learn and pick up some tips from his expertise through our album. Thanks Thomas for that wonderful home cooked vegetarian spaghetti topped with Swiss cheese.
