Frankly, I was a little doubtful if I could make it the next day for the second leg of our journey. Woke up in the middle of the night after a very poor sleep to check my calves…..pretty tight but surprisingly the rest of the body seemed fine.
Goodbye Kapot

The first 3 hours was quite relaxing, crisscrossing the Kumba River numerous times and then up a gentle slope till the border between Kapot and Sungkung.

The next 3 hours was done in untouched virgin jungle and although the climb was very steep those awesome trees of meranti, chengal, engkabang, selangan batu and ubah made us forget how torturous it was. Cool it may be but the humidity was sauna like.

The descent was very difficult and dangerous without proper steps or roots to hold on to. We risked our lives to take these photos for you guys so please appreciate them!!

The last 2 hours was mostly cultivated landscape of either cocoa plantation or freshly cleared patches for future farming.

About 30 minutes to the village, the welcoming party from Senebeh was anxiously waiting for our arrival signalling us with their war cries and firecrackers. The Gumbang contingent by now had changed to their traditional gears replied in exact same fashion. More photos in our coming Part 2 series.
