What was supposed to be an afternoon to catch a view of silver leaf monkeys near a construction site opposite Emart Matang turned out to be a ‘no show’. Maybe it was the monkeys’ Sunday off! Workers at the site even confirmed these monkeys always come out to play during afternoons oblivious of the workers. Just not our luck. So we decided to go ‘makan angin’.
Through the twist and turn of some housing estates roads nearby we suddenly found ourselves driving along the brand new Matang highway. Pleasant surprise. Stop by an interesting sugarcane drink nearby Petra Jaya before making our way to the State Stadium to see if we could catch a friend’s favourite pastime, go kart racing.
Was further surprised by so many other interesting activities going on around here on a hot Sunday afternoon. There was the Hakka dominated
remote car racing, super bike racing (sharing the same track as the go karters) and outdoor archery training. Missed out on the go kart session as I was busy talking to Francis Chan on the upcoming State Open Archery competition in Bintulu on the 12Aug. Well, you guys know where to go if you have nothing else to do on Sundays, just make your way to the State Stadium at around 2.30pm and bring along your drinks as I didn’t notice any drink vendors anywhere near.
