While you are still around the vicinity of Kuala Gandah enjoying your elephant rides and visiting the Orang Asli village you must find time to drop by “Deerland’ a small but warm private zoo.
Warm because you never find elsewhere in the world where 6 handlers provide so much personal attention explaining, giving out feeding food, taking animals out from their cage so you can take photos and helping you take photos.
My greatest surprise in here was finding the most beautiful bird made famous by a Korean movie (Dae Jang Geum-大长今-Jewel In The Palace), it’s the golden pheasant. The handlers call him ‘Kuning’ meaning yellow.
Mei Er had a wrestle with a 8ft python and got out of it alive and smiling.
For the first time in our lives we had the guts to breathe down the neck of a very hungry bear. Videoing the courtship of ‘Hijau’ the peacock was a memorable experience.
As we came into the zoo late we could not find time to do other activities available in this 4 hectare site, like herbal plant identification tour, trekking, camping, flying fox, jungle survival course and bird watching. Maybe next time.
