Location : Desa Miau Baru, Kecamatan Kongbeng, Kabupaten Kutai Timur, Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia.
The village of Miao Baru which was about an hour’s drive away from Wahau was highly recommended by my friend Guntur who has a close business relationship with the Kayan ladies here. Do not be surprised if you meet them and they claim they know Kuching or Sarawak very well. They were the ones who used to ply their trade in Sarawak more than 25 years ago, wheeling dealing from Miri, Sibu and right down to Kuching. Age caught up and they have since delegated this beadwork/traditional costume business to Guntur whom they introduced to Kuching more than 10 years ago.
As expected from the Kayan tribe, Miao Baru is a colourful village indeed with awesome belian sculptures. Enjoy the photos. (More about Miau Baru, please click here)
